Proportional Technologies, Inc's current slate of research and development projects continues to garner high interest and regard within the scientific community. Recently, president and CEO, Dr. Jeffrey Lacy, presented ongoing PTI work at the IEEE 2009 Nuclear Science Symposium & Medical Imaging Conference in Orlando, FL. The symposium included workshops and special sessions to acquaint attendees with current as well as new and emerging nuclear science and technologies.

An important workshop on "Alternatives to 3He Neutron Detectors" addressed the current crisis related to the dwindling supply of 3He available particularly for large neutron science imaging detectors. This shortage threatens to curtail a very important area of emerging science, the use of intense neutron beams to probe the properties of materials such as new superconducting materials and important biological processes such as the function of cell membranes. Proportional Technologies is developing a large area neutron imaging detector that promises not only to relieve the dependence upon 3He but also to provide enhanced imaging performance by affording orders of magnitude higher rate performance. The PTI technology was presented in a paper titled "One Meter Square High Rate Imaging Detector Based on Boron Straws" delivered in the "Neutron Imaging and Detectors for Neutron Imaging" session.
