Proportional Technologies was recently awarded funding from Alion Science and Technology/Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) to develop Radiation Portal Monitors (RPM) based on boron-coated straw detectors. This funding is to support additional research and development on an earlier neutron detector development collaboration between Proportional Technologies and Alion/DTRA.
In this year-long project, PTI will design, build, and test two alternative RPM designs based on our patented neutron straw technology. The designs will leverage research and development advances in the production of boron-coated straw detectors, and will investigate distributed straw arrays packed in a moderator. Areas for research include material science, detector design and integration, and signal readout electronics design.
